In Conversation with Ganesh K. Shenoy.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest book? What was the spark that set the story in motion?

Since childhood, I’ve been deeply fascinated by three powerful themes: spirituality, occultism, and science. As a member of the Theosophical Society, I’ve immersed myself in the teachings of great spiritual figures—Hindu saints, Lord Jesus, Lord Buddha, and many others—gaining a deep appreciation for their wisdom and universal truths.

I still remember gazing up at the night sky, captivated by the beauty of the stars and the serene glow of the moon. Those quiet moments under the cosmos stirred something profound in me. Alongside that, science fiction films, especially those exploring space and time travel, left a lasting impression on my imagination. These early influences ultimately inspired me to write Seginus, the Eternal Time Traveller—a story born from the intersection of wonder, mystery, and the endless possibilities of the universe.

How did your journey as a writer begin? Was there a particular moment or experience that made you realize this was your path?

My journey as a writer began during my college years. I penned a few short stories back then, and to my surprise and delight, they won prizes in inter-college competitions. Even though countless stories would surface from the depths of my subconscious, I never seriously considered capturing them with the intent to publish. They simply drifted through me—fleeting, unrecorded.

But something changed in 2022. I experienced a deep realization: our lives on this planet are not random; they are purposeful. And I came to understand that my purpose is to tell unique stories that speak to the mysteries and wonders of existence. That insight gave birth to my debut fiction novel, Seginus, The Eternal Time Traveller.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced while writing this book, and how did you overcome them?

As an executive in a multinational company, my professional responsibilities were immense, and my workload demanding. The only time I could carve out for writing was late at night—when the world quieted down, and my thoughts could finally find space. It wasn’t easy. Physical exhaustion often stood in my way, making the act of writing a true test of perseverance. But despite the fatigue, the stories within me refused to stay silent. They kept pushing, kept demanding to be told.

How much of your personal experience or worldview is reflected in the themes or characters of your book?

Having been a member of the Theosophical Society since childhood, I was exposed early on to the teachings of various world religions and drawn deeply into the study of occult sciences. This spiritual foundation ignited a lifelong curiosity in the unseen and the mysterious. Alongside this, stargazing became a cherished hobby—I was endlessly fascinated by the vastness of space and the concept of time travel. That wonder naturally led me to explore a wide array of science fiction films, which further fueled my imagination.

My debut sci-fi novel is a reflection of this dual influence—my modest understanding of occult sciences combined with my love for science fiction. Together, they shaped the unique narrative of Seginus, The Eternal Time Traveller.

What does your typical writing routine look like? Do you follow a strict schedule or write more intuitively?

I wrote only in those rare days when ideas surged forth like waves from the sea of my subconscious mind. Those moments were never planned; they simply arrived, often unannounced, carrying with them the essence of a story that demanded to be told.

How do you approach writer’s block or creative fatigue, especially during long projects?

I never experienced creative fatigue, because I genuinely loved what I was doing. Writing wasn’t just a task; it was my passion. Each time I translated my imagination into words, shaping thoughts into sentences and building worlds from ideas, I felt energized rather than exhausted. The act of creation was deeply fulfilling, it fed my spirit more than it ever drained my energy.

What role did editing, and feedback play in shaping the final version of your book?

The editors at Blue Hill Publications played a crucial role in shaping my manuscript. Their thoughtful edits and continuous feedback helped refine my work, pushing me to elevate the story to its fullest potential. I’m deeply grateful for their support throughout the journey.

How has publishing this book changed your perspective—on writing, on readers, or even on yourself?

My perspective didn’t truly shift until this book received two significant recognitions: The Christian Book Award from Collins Productions and the Runner-Up Award from the PenCraft Book Awards. These honours were more than accolades—they were affirmations. They made me believe, perhaps for the first time, that the fiction I had written was not only meaningful, but truly remarkable.

What advice would you offer to aspiring writers who are trying to find their voice or get published?

Aspiring authors should not focus on publishing or fame before the writing even begins. The first and most important step is to look inward—delve deeply into yourself to uncover the ideas that are truly worth telling. Let the story emerge authentically and completely before turning your attention to the publishing world.

Once your manuscript is finished, then the journey to find a publisher can begin. However, it’s important to recognize that gaining acceptance from traditional publishers is often a long and difficult process, especially for debut authors. In such cases, self-publishing offers a powerful alternative. Companies like Blue Hill Publications can provide the guidance, support, and platform needed to bring your work to life and into the hands of readers.

What’s next for you—are there upcoming projects or ideas you’re excited to explore?

Soon, I will be publishing a unique collection of short stories, 153 pieces crafted in the drabble form. Each story is concise yet impactful, capturing a world of meaning within just a hundred words. I’m excited to share this collection with readers who appreciate the art of brevity and the power of storytelling in its most distilled form.
